Wakanohana 2-0,
Akebono gets first win

TOKYO -- Ozeki (champion) Wakanohana, seeking promotion to sumo's highest rank, improved his record to 2-0 yesterday on the second day of the 15-day Summer Grand Sumo tournament.

Yokozuna (grand champion) Takanohana and ozeki Takanonami remained undefeated at 2-0, while yokozuna Akebono from Hawaii picked up his first victory against one defeat.

Ozeki Musashimaru, also from Hawaii, stands 1-1 as well.

Wakanohana fought off Tosanoumi's hand thrusts, grabbed his foe's belt and drove him out.

Akebono, or Chad Rowan, who had suffered an upset in the opening day, charged Aogiyama with hand thrusts and pushed him out.

Musashimaru, or Fiamalu Penitani, grabbed Tochinonada's belt and bulldozed him out.
