HPR offers cheap sounds

Hawaii Public Radio's "Almost New" Record Sale, an annual treasure hunt for music lovers, will take place May 22-24 at Ward Warehouse.

More than 25,000 albums, cassettes and CDs, as well as memorabilia and stereo equipment, will be sold at bargain prices.

Prices are $1 for cassettes, $2 for records (except valuable collectibles) $5 for used CDs and $10 for new CDs.

The sale runs from 7 to 9 p.m. May 22 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. the 23rd and 24th. HPR members get in two hours early on opening night.

Admission is by $3 donation. Call 955-8821.

Donations of "gently used" records, equipment, etc., are still being accepted at HPR, 738 Kaheka St., 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.

Chinese dances in concert

An evening of Chinese folk and modern dances will be presented by the Phoenix Dance Chamber and the Lee Pui Ming Music Ensemble of Toronto at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Mamiya Theatre on the St. Louis School/Chaminade University campus.

"Heaven and Earth" is staged as a scholarship fund-raiser by the Hawaii Foundation for Chinese Culture and Arts. Admission is $15, $12 for students and seniors. Children 5 and younger are admitted free. Tickets may be purchased at Excellent Gems & Diamond at the Chinese Cultural Plaza, Jerry's Jade & Fine Jewelry at the China Town Mall, and Kwong Tong Chong Co. at 925-A Maunakea Street.
