Drawing on military parallels

Charles Ray takes charge of the fiscal, physical and administrative management operations for eight properties in the $6 billion portfolio of Hawaiiana Management Co. Ltd.

He comes to Hawaiiana after 20 years in management work for the U.S. Army. He retired last year as a first sergeant. While working out of Schofield Barracks one of his last assignments included supervising housing, and contracts for Air Force aircraft used by the Army. His job involved an annual operating budget of $15 million and supervising more than 600 people.

"There are a lot of parallels to what I was doing in the military and it's been a smooth transition so far (at Hawaiiana)," Ray said.

Ray studied business management and human resources at Georgia State University and Hawaii Pacific University.

Hawaiiana Management Co. Ltd. services some 230 isle owners' associations.
