blanked by RamsHawaii fell to 16-11 on the season.
WAHINE BASKETBALL CAMP: Applications are available for the 1998 Rainbow Wahine Basketball Camp with UH head coach Vince Goo and staff, June 20-22, on the University of Hawaii campus.
The camp is for girls ages 9-18 and boys ages 9-14. The cost is $75 ($67.50 for Junior Fan Club members).

TAN SPARKLES: Carleton (Minn.) College sophomore Kelly Tan of Honolulu won the javelin throw with a toss of 75 feet, 7.25 inches and also took first place in the 100-meter hurdles event in 15.56 seconds in a recent dual meet with St. Olaf. Tan's hurdles time qualified her for the MIAC Championships in May.
PRO BOWL HELPS CHARITIES: NFL Charities awarded $100,000 to nine Hawaii charities and youth organizations as part of the league's Pro Bowl Grant Program, which makes funds available to nonprofit agencies that address education and physical fitness.
The selected agencies were:
The Boys and Girls Club of Honolulu, the Oahu Interscholastic Association, the Big Island Interscholastic Federation, the Kauai Interscholastic Federation, the Maui Interscholastic League, the Leeward YMCA, the City and County of Honolulu's Department of Parks and Recreation, the Hawaii State Library Foundation and the Aloha United Way.
The Hawaiian Pro Bowl Host Committee, through the efforts of the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau, also contributed funds to the Children's Discovery Center and the Domestic Violence Clearinghouse and Legal Hotline through sponsorship of the Pro Bowl Charities Golf Tournament.
HIBT CELEBRATES 40TH: The Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament will be celebrating its 40th anniversary Aug. 1-9 at Kailua-Kona.
Founded by Peter Fithian, the first tournament in 1958 had six anglers and a journalist. Last year, 53 teams representing 14 countries took part in the event called the "grand-daddy" of all amateur deep-sea fishing tournaments.
The Pajaro Valley Gamefish Club of California, which has taken part in the HIBT for 36 years, won last year's title.
Five days of fishing will begin Aug. 3, following opening ceremonies and a parade during Kailua-Kona town Aug. 2.
Preceding the event will be the HIBT Pro-Am competition, also at Kailua-Kona, July 27-30. That event was won by the Captain Cook Coffee Billfish Team from California.

WOMEN IN GOLF DAY: Women of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate in free golf lessons, demonstrations and other exciting golf-related activities May 16 when the Koolau Golf Club hosts Women in Golf Day 1998.
Designed to introduce golf to women in a fun, nonintimidating atmosphere, the event begins at 8 a.m. Participants can compete in a Rally for a Cure closest-to-the-pin contest with donations benefiting the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

JUNIOR GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP: Qualifying for the 51st USGA Junior Championship is June 29-30 at Maui's Wailea Golf Club Gold course. Practice is June 27.
Entries are open to male amateur golfers who will not reach their 18th birthday by midnight, July 25, and have a USGA handicap not exceeding 8.4.
Entry forms are available at most golf courses or by contacting the Junior Golf Committees on all islands. Entries must be mailed to the USGA office, N.J., by June 17.
The National Championship is July 21-25 at Conway Farms Golf Club, at Lake Forest, Illinois.
