"Makana Akamai": Friends of the Library is asking for book donations to help the library's book budget. A brochure of wanted books, is available by calling 536-4174. Books may be donated to a favorite library.
Contests
Children's stories: Children's Literature Hawaii is looking for writers 16 and older to enter their contest and win $75-$150. Entries must be no longer than 10 pages and must be aimed toward children ages infant through young adult. Stories can be fiction or non-fiction and retold legends are acceptable.
Judging will be based on appeal, originality, completeness, plausibility and style. Manuscripts must be clearly typed (approximately 250 words per page) and double-spaced on white paper. No illustrations. Name, title, address and phone number must be typed on a separate cover sheet. Entries must be unpublished and no entries will be returned. Entry fee: $5 per story. Make checks payable to Children's Literature Hawaii and mail to: CLH Story Contest Coordinator, Department of English, 1733 Donaghho Road, Honolulu 96822.
