Bullet John E.K. Akaka, 84, of Honolulu, a musician and brother of U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka, died Monday in Kaiser Hospital. He was also a retired postal worker. He was born in Honolulu. He is survived by son Alfred; daughters Puanani Caindec and Hannah Lino; brother Mark; sister Susan Taylor, 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Bullet Emily C. Anderson, 78, of Honolulu died Monday in Queen’s Hospital. She was born in Koloa, Kauai. She is survived by daughters Sandra Andrade, Debra Thompson and Donna Bender; sisters Virginia Pavlic and Margaret Martinez, and nine grandchildren. Bullet Ferdinand C. “Fred” Escalera, 83, of Honolulu, a retired small arms repair supervisor at Fort Shafter and Schofield Barracks, died Monday in Queen’s Hospital. He was born in Waiakea, Hawaii. He is survived by wife Elsie; son Robert; daughter Jean Freitas; sister Pilares Robello, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mass: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Star of the Sea Church. Bullet Amparo F. Espiritu, 67, of Waipahu, a restaurant cashier, died last Thursday in St. Francis Hospital. She was born in the Philippines. She is survived by husband Eugenio; son Ray; daughter Brenda Bustamante; sister Remedios Ladao, and four grandchildren. Services: 8 p.m. Sunday at St. Joseph Church, 94-675 Farrington Hwy., Waipahu. Bullet Russell W. Hills, 84, of Kalaoa, Kona, Hawaii, a retired owner of a retail hardware store, died April 18 in Kona Community Hospital. He was born in Los Angeles. He is survived by sons Henry and Howard and two grandchildren. No services.

Bullet Jack R. Kanazawa, 76, of Kailua, a retired experimental vegetable farmer, died April 20 in Honolulu. He was born in Kailua. He is survived by brothers Joseph, Clyde, Takuji and Harold, and sisters Betsy Kanazawa and Margaret Shoho. Private services.

Bullet Richard P.S. “Bolo” Kealoha, 63, of Nanakuli, a retired mason, died Friday in Nanakuli. He was born in Honolulu. He is survived by wife Elaine; daughter Kathlyn Tavita; son Richard P.S. Jr.; brother Paul; sisters Rose Uwekoolani, Maryanne Kahalehoe, Helen Hu and Sarah Nikaido, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services: 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Kamakapili Church. Bullet Charles “Ike” Kern, 84, of Boulder, Colo., a former plantation supervisor at Dole Co. in Hawaii, died April 20 in Boulder. He was born in Cedar, Kan. He is survived by wife Alice; son David E.; daughters Mary B. Kern and Carol J. Burghart; brothers Lawrence and Max, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services held. Bullet Bela Kollar, 59, of Kailua-Kona, a carpenter, died Sunday in Kona Community Hospital. He was born in Budapest, Hungary.
