


Susie Schoales of Hawaii Pacific University was named the Most Valuable Player of the Hawaii Intercollegiate Athletic Conference after leading the Sea Warriors softball team to the HIAC title. Schoales named MVP
Schoales, a sophomore left-hander, had an 18-6 record this season with a 1.16 ERA. She was an NAIA All-American last season.
Howard Okita was the HIAC Coach of the Year.
Other Hawaii Pacific players to receive conference first team honors were: Jarnett Lono (2b), Jen Kimura (3b), Ilima Guerrero (of) and Star Perry (dp).
Four players from the University of Hawaii at Hilo were selected: Kristy Odamura (ss), Melanie Hipwell (c), Julie Bock (of) and Michelle Canchola (p).
Chaminade's Sara Lacar (1b) and Marissa Vasper (of) completed the team.
KOSHI 17th: At Livermore, Calif., Hawaii's Ryan Koshi shot a 2-over 74 yesterday for a two-day total of 1-under 143, leaving him in a tie for 17th place at the Western Athletic Conference golf championships.
Hank Kuehne of Southern Methodist and Ryan King of Fresno State shot 65s to share the lead at 9-under 135.
Nevada-Las Vegas held the team lead at 11-under 565, five strokes better than New Mexico. Hawaii was eighth, at 584.
Other Hawaii golfers: Jarrod Mizusawa (74--144, tied for 21st), Isaac Sanchez (70--149, tied for 42nd), Bret Parker (79--151, tied for 57th) and Van Wright (77--155, tied for 73rd).

YES VOLLEYBALL CLINICS: As part of the NCAA men's volleyball championship, the NCAA will sponsor a free youth clinic Friday at various University of Hawaii gyms.
The YES program allows youth, ages 10-18, to enhance their volleyball skills. Coaches committed to the clinic are Glennie Adams (Chaminade), Tita Ahuna (Hawaii Pacific), Ruben Nieves (Stanford), Marv Dunphy (Pepperdine), Wilfred Navalta (BYU-Hawaii) and Sharon Peterson (Hawaii-Hilo).
