KOSHI THREE BACK: At Livermore, Calif., Ryan Koshi shot a 3-under 69 and was three strokes off the pace of individual leader Andy Miller of BYU after the first round of the Western Athletic Conference men's golf championships.
Hawaii was at 1-over-par 289, which put the Rainbows in eighth place in the team competition. Nevada-Las Vegas led at 11-under 277.
Other Hawaii golfers included Jarrod Mizusawa (70, tied for 12th), Bret Parker (72, tied for 28th) and Van Wright (78, tied for 71st).
METCALF WINS BIKE MEET: Kevin Metcalf of Ewa Beach rode his Honda CB600 to victory in the South Seas Pro Bike race at Hawaii Raceway Park Saturday, beating Honolulu's Dave Phillips in the final.
JONES HONORED: Honolulu running back Darrell Jones was named the Professional Indoor Football League Offensive Player of the Week. He led the Hurricanes to a 46-40 victory over the Texas Bullets last Saturday with three touchdowns, 99 yards rushing and 36 yards receiving.
RADFORD NEEDS COACHES: Coaching positions for varsity boys' basketball, varsity swimming and varsity boys' volleyball are open at Radford High School.
