PREVIEW

Four movies begin their Oahu run on Friday:

bullet Black Dog: (PG-13) Patrick Swayze and Randy Travis star in this action film about an ex-con who finds himself eluding both federal agents and mob highjackers after he is hired to drive a truck full of illegal weaponry.

bullet The Butcher Boy: (R) Neil Jordan's film of Patrick McCabe's novel is a lament for a wild boy maddened by the hypocrisies of home, church and community in a 1960s Ireland that's a breeding ground for schizophrenia.

bullet Les Miserables: (PG-13) Liam Neeson and Geoffrey Rush head an international cast in the third big-screen adaptation of Victor Hugo's novel. The movie focuses on Jan Valjean, sentenced to 20 years of hard labor for stealing a loaf of bread, and his struggle toward goodness and peace with himself after his release.

bullet He Got Game: Denzel Washington plays a prisoner who is promised a commuted sentence if he can persuade his estranged son Jesus (Ray Allen), the country's top high school basketballer player, to attend the governor's alma mater. Directed by Spike Lee. (PG-13)
