Star-BulletinContinental Airlines said today it will drop its daily San Francisco-Honolulu flight in early June, just before it begins Newark, N.J.-Honolulu nonstop service.
Ron Wright, Continental's sales and marketing manager in Hawaii, said Continental's San Francisco-area customers will be served by the airline's code-share alliance partner, Northwest Airlines, which has one daily San Francisco-Honolulu flight.
"We continue to look at San Francisco," and if demand picks up Continental will serve the route again with its own aircraft, Wright said.
Continental expects significant business out of its Newark-Honolulu service, which begins June 11. Meanwhile, Continental still has its daily nonstop flights to Honolulu from Houston and Los Angeles.
United Airlines has the bulk of the San Francisco-Hawaii business with four flights a day to Honolulu, two a day to Maui and one a day to Kona.
Hawaiian Airlines has daily direct service to Honolulu plus a San Francisco-Maui-Honolulu service four days a week.
Delta Airlines and American Airlines each have daily San Francisco-Honolulu service.
