It has been quite a week for former University of Hawaii quarterback Tim Carey.

First, he thought he was going to the San Francisco 49ers, only to discover they opted for Florida State's Thad Busby, instead.

A couple of days later, the Stanford University transfer was all set for a pair of tryouts with Montreal and Toronto in the Canadian Football League, only to learn yesterday that the Oakland Raiders were interested in signing him to a free-agent deal.

Carey hit 99 of 175 passes for 1,023 yards and two touchdowns for Hawaii last season. The 6-foot-3 quarterback has spent most of the off-season in the weight room. He said earlier this week that he has gone from 178 in the Notre Dame game to 203.

He is the second UH player to sign with the Raiders over the last year. Former UH defensive lineman Taase Faumui will report to their camp this summer as well.
