Steeled for the job

Fletcher Pacific Construction Co. has chosen Wilfred Ideue to coordinate all the company's federal government construction projects.

"I lot of the housing is done in metal (steel) now," Ideue said. "As it catches on it will get cheaper." Lumber prices are down from a few years ago, but the fluctuations can make cost estimating on wood homes tricky, he said.

He has more than 30 years experience in construction. He joined Fletcher Pacific in 1996 as field operations manager.

The company's current federal projects are housing at Schofield Army Barracks, Pearl Harbor and in Kaneohe.

Ideue worked 14 years with G.W. Murphy Construction as a general superintendent and vice president/assistant operations manager. He also was a framing and finishing instructor for the Hawaii Carpenter Union's apprenticeship program.
