‘Door?’ sign
a federal case

Wat Dat? That mysterious "DOOR?" sign on Punchbowl we wrote about last week was indeed for use of federal employees across the street, according to Coast Guard engineer James Gushiken, who's been in the Prince Kuhio building since it opened in the '70s. "The gate to the basement parking lot had to be closed manually, and the sign was to remind federal workers as they were leaving," said Gushiken. "Now there's an electric eye that closes the door. That sign's been obsolete at least 10 years -- and I'm not sure anyone paid attention to it when it was needed."
