The University of Hawaii men's volleyball team will host a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation first-round playoff match Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center. Tickets for UH volleyball
playoff on sale ThursdayThe Rainbows will take on either Loyola Marymount or UC Santa Barbara, the opponent to be determined tonight.
Tickets will be on sale to the public Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the UH ticket office. Patrons will not be allowed to stand in line until 6 a.m. Phone sales will run from noon to 6 p.m.
If tickets are still available Friday and Saturday, they will be sold from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Season-ticket holders who purchased first-round tickets through mail order may pick them up tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
MEYER TO DEFEND MID-PAC TITLE: Greg Meyer will defend his title in the 35th Mid-Pacific Open golf tournament Thursday through Sunday at the Mid-Pacific Country Club.
Also entered are former winners Casey Nakama, Brandan Kop and Lance Suzuki, who has won the event eight times. Damien Jamila, who won the Hawaii State Amateur last month, also is competing.
The 72-hole tournament also will have A and B flights besides the open flight for pros and championship golfers. There will be a 36-hole cut in each flight.
The 77 pros will compete for the $5,000 top prize.
NINERS AT BED RACE: A group of present and former San Francisco 49ers, including Hawaii's Jesse Sapolu, will take part in the Honolulu International Bed Race Festival and two concurrent "Kids Clinics" Saturday at Kapiolani Park.
Joining Sapolu in the Bed Race, the Mattress Tug of War and the clinics will be JJ Stokes, Tim Harris, Gary Plummer, John Paye, Greg Clark and Lee Woodall.
The clinics will run from noon to 1 p.m. and 2-3 p.m. in the park, next to the "Keiki Carnival" area.
