Leo the actor loses out
to Willie the prince

The girls at St. Andrew's Priory have spoken: They like Willie more than Leo.

The Star-Bulletin called for votes on which young man made hearts throb more, and the British prince beat out "Titanic" mega-hunk Leonardo DiCaprio by two votes. The ballots from St. Andrew's pushed Willie over the top.

DiCaprio was in the lead until Thursday, but on Friday, deadline day, 33 ballots came from the girls' school, 20 of them naming Prince William as most winsome man.

Although many of the 69 total people who voted did so because they thought their choice "handsome," there were other reasons:

Katherine-Anne Kimura, age 7, and the youngest Prince William voter, said she likes him "because he's a prince and he has blond hair and he smiles a lot and he's famous." She agreed that DiCaprio is also a famous blond, but "Prince William (is) better because he's a REAL prince."

Elizabeth Samparo, William's oldest admirer at age 72, said, she fell in love with William the moment he was born. And, being a retired baby-sitter who loves children and a grandmother with a grandson named William, Samparo has followed the prince ever since.

Shauna Baxa, 11, likes William because "he's what everyone wants from a guy." Shauna said the prince's inheritance didn't influence her vote. She's liked him since she was 8, when she saw a picture of him on a magazine cover. Since then she's collected lots of pictures but doesn't put any on her walls. "I just leave them in the magazines so they can be straight."

Her half-sister, Aimee-Jane Baxa, a registered nurse and one of our older voters, disagreed. She said DiCaprio was the man because "he's cool and genuine." She said he "seems down to earth and not your typical Hollywood, serious, uptight actor." She also said DiCaprio "would be interesting to watch in the years to come" and thinks it is about time he got paid what he was worth. "He's paid his dues," Aimee-Jane said.

Unlike William, DiCaprio had male fans in his batch of voters.

George Ling, 65, and one of two male voters, said he likes DiCaprio's style of acting.

"He matches the part of acting (and) he's got a face for acting." Ling has only seen DiCaprio's two recent movies -- "Titanic" and "The Man In the Iron Mask" -- but he feels the actor has a bright future. With gross ticket sales so high, Ling said, DiCaprio should make more than $20 million per picture. "He makes me feel young and I hope he keeps on going in the acting business."
