Brooks lays
hard sell on AndyMICHEL'S owner D.G. "Andy" Anderson told Carole Brooks she should be a used car salesman after she put him through such tough negotiations to take over Michel's for last Saturday night's Chaine des Rotisseurs banquet. Carole heads the Chaine's Oahu and Kauai chapters. The members even have their own song, which Dr. Bob Flowers, Jean Hannon and Carole had the 73 well-dressed attendees sing. Chef Ian Russo and staff prepared caviar pie, trout, quail, fillet of beef, etc. Cristal champagne and Mondavi's Opus One were poured. Handsome waiters wore tuxes and white gloves. Kawohikukapulani's aloha
HELEN Kawohikukapulani "Baby Beamer" Desha Dahlberg, 79, whose hula career started at age 4, died March 23 on the Big Isle. She was the daughter of Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame composer Helen Desha Beamer. Composer Beamer's most famous song is "Kawohikukapulani," written for "Baby Beamer" when she wed Lt. Charles Dahlberg in April 1941. Helen also wrote "Pua Malihini" for the Army Air Corps pilot. She wrote both songs just prior to the wedding. Mahi and Milton "Sonny" Beamer Jr., brothers, recall that "Baby Beamer" brought about nine of the Hickam pilots' wives to their parents' Alewa home when Pearl Harbor was attacked on Dec. 7, 1941. "Many were in various stages of hapai," Mahi said. They stayed a month. "Kawohikukapulani" and "Pua Malihini" were sung by the Beamer family at Monday's Hilo funeral ...
