Four vehicles
wait fore you

THE Child and Family Service's April 16 golf tournament at the Sheraton Makaha Golf Club is called "Child's Play," but that's not reflected in the prizes. Waiting on a quartet of designated par-3 holes for participants to sink an ace are four 1998 autos: A Buick Park Avenue, Nissan Altima, Maxima and Frontier Truck. And if you're not shooting aces, you can still score by stepping up in an auction to follow and winning two round trips to London, a men's gold Rolex valued at $16,000 or the CFS Guild's catered pau hana office party for 75. For the 14th year in a row, First Hawaiian Bank is sponsoring the event, with Walter Dods and John Tsui and their wives seving as honorary chairs ...

AFTER presiding over the enormously successful opening of the Four Seasons New York, Tom Gurtner has been named Regional V.P. and G.M. of the Regent Hong Kong. Gurtner joined Four Seasons in 1989, but local visitor industry folks will remember him well as G.M. of the Ilikai back when it was operated by Westin ...

SPEAKING of golf, as we were a moment ago, the Moanalua Golf Course is holding its 50th invitational golf tourney this year and the theme is "Year of the Tiger." They're thinking more of the Chinese calendar than Tiger Woods, although chair Blossom Jamison would like to contact Woods. This year's tournament is being dedicated to the late Billie Beamer, the OHA trustee who died in January. A former member of Moanalua, Beamer still holds the overall low gross score of 154 in the tournament ...

Willie K busted? Nah

SOME of the passengers on a recent flight to Las Vegas thought for a moment that entertainers Willie K and Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom were being arrested at the airport. As they entered the terminal, two armed officers approached the two and Willie reacted as you might expect, "I just got here -- what did I do?" The officers quickly identified themselves as bodyguards and drivers assigned to the limousine that was to take Willie and Amy to the California Hotel. Their gig there was less hectic than their arrival, given that many in the enthusiastic audience at the Ohana Room were locals ...

BUYERS of Sellers: Anyone with one of those old Diamond Head Sunshine Festival posters that Tom Sellers created 25 or so years ago might want to check the Internet, where an outfit called Rockworld has one listed for $1,100 on its Web site ... It was a bit like old-time radio during the KHPR fund-raising show when Jo Pruden and Jim Tharp did a scene from "On Golden Pond." The charming tale of senior citizens plays Friday through Sunday at the Academy of Arts Theatre, and for seniors -- or others -- who don't like to stay out too late, there are 2 p.m. matinees Saturday and Sunday ...

Book 'em, Danno

FORMER isle girl Pam Chilton, once Miss Kailua, moved to New York in the '60s and roomed with Bette Midler as each sought to become "stars." Pam returned to Honolulu where she did some writing for local publications, and eventually moved to California to study metaphysics and hypnosis. She ended up marrying her hypnosis teacher, Dr. Hugh Harmon, and now they've co-authored a book, "Odyssey of the Soul," subtitled "Apoctastasis." She's returning home next month to promote the new book at local stores. But there may still be a "star" in the family. Her daughter, Bambi Birnbaum, just got her SAG card and filmed a pilot called "Skip Jumpers" with Arsenio Hall ...
