Receptionist
a real life saverTHAT gigantic bouquet of flowers on the desk of Charlotte Rodrigues, receptionist for the Schiller Group, came courtesy of account exec Nicole Gustie. Seems Gustie was eating (with gusto?) in the conference room when a piece of chicken lodged in her throat. Unable to speak, she ran into the reception area making all kinds of gestures. Two women sitting there seemed to take no notice of her, chatting together as they waited to speak with someone else, but Rodrigues, apparently more schooled in the art of pantomime, figured out the problem and applied a Heimlich maneuver to Gustie, and out popped the chicken. Finally, the other two took notice. "Oh," said one, "she must have saved your life." And that is why Rodrigues is blessed with that massive bouquet today ...

He's one of the proprietors (with Linda Wong) of the new Hawaiian Wedding Chapel at the Old Fishpond in Kahaluu ...
Dove tale
IN a Sports Illustrated story headlined "Hall of Fame Oversight," the magazine is spearheading a move to get the College Football Hall of Fame to honor a player long overlooked -- Notre Dame's Bob Dove. Of the 63 two-time consensus All-Americas from '25 to '68, the only two not in the Hall of Fame are Billy Cannon, a convicted felon, and Dove. Simply an oversight. The hall has said it will ignore the rule that states a player has just 50 years after his last college game to be enshrined, and will place Dove's name on this year's list of nominees. Dove, who is now 77, lives in Canfield, Ohio, and raises funds for the Youngstown State football team. What makes this of interest locally is that his son, also Bob Dove, is president and CEO of the Hawaii Employers Mutual Insurance Co. ...ALOHA Magazine publisher Rick Davis was driving down Kalakaua when he spotted the longest limousine he'd ever seen. He started to pass it and kept passing it and passing it and figured it must be more than twice the length of his car. Finally he came alongside and cracked up when he saw the name of the company on the side of the car: "Nice and Long Limo Company." ...
Bits and pieces
