"Bye Bye Birdie," the award-winning musical that brings back the days when frenzied teen-agers swooned over rock 'n' roll stars like Elvis and Ricky and the Big Bopper, comes to the Blaisdell Concert Hall May 13-16. 'Birdie' bids bye bye in May
Troy Donahue plays Harry MacAfee, father of the teen-ager chosen to receive a farewell kiss from teen idol Conrad Birdie. The musical won four Tonys, including Best Musical.
Shows begin at 7:30 p.m. May 13 and 14, 8 p.m. on May 15 and at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. May 16. Tickets are $20, $30 and $37.50 for the matinee and May 13 and 14; $25, $35 and $42.50 for the other shows.

For many American children, classic Saturday morning cartoons like "Tom and Jerry" and "The Pink Panther" were the first introduction to classical music. The Honolulu Symphony concert brings the two art forms together again. The symphony and those looney 'toons
"Cartoon Classics in Concert," with pianist David Buechner, takes place 11 a.m. Saturday at Blaisdell Concert Hall.
Pops conductor Stuart Chafetz will lead the orchestra in Strauss' "Die Fledermaus," followed by a showing of the classic cartoon "Tom and Jerry at the Hollywood Bowl." Other highlights include Brahms Hungarian Dance and Liszt' Hungarian Fantasy for Piano and Orchestra followed by "The Cat Concerto" cartoon with Tom and Jerry and the Pink Panther's "Pink, Plank, Plink" cartoon.
The Symphony's "Instrument" Petting Zoo -- a chance to meet the musicians -- begins at 10 a.m.
