A formal affair in denim

Country music star Larry Stewart makes his Hawaii debut at the Hawaii Theatre fund-raising gala "Denim & Diamonds" April 25.

Attendees are encouraged to dress in jeans and jewelry for the affair that begins with cocktails and dinner at one of seven locations: the executive dining rooms of Bank of Hawaii and First Hawaiian Bank, Harbor Court 14th-floor spa, Indigo Restaurant, Palomino Euro Bistro, Duc's Bistro or the Hawaii Theatre Center banquet room.

The evening continues at the Hawaii Theatre with an interactive skit, an auction and entertainment by Stewart.

Table reservations range from $1,500 to $10,00 for ten settings. Individual seats are $150. Call 528-5535.

Three movies begin their Oahu run on Friday:

Barney's Great Adventure: (G) When Barney is around, bad things happen to Cody (Trevor Morgan). While the dinosaur is doing a song-and-dance number, he "accidentally" knocks the boy over, then "lets" him be tossed off a wheelbarrow. This is the PBS television star's first feature film.

Lost In Space: (PG-13) The space family Robinson makes the leap to the big screen in an adventure starring Gary Oldman, William Hurt, Matt LeBlanc and Mimi Rogers.

Mercury Rising: (R) Bruce Willis stars in a new action thriller that pits an outcast FBI agent against a National Security agent played by Alec Baldwin.
