Fun, no doubt

No Doubt, The Vandals and Cherry Poppin' Daddies headline the Nomad Festival, 6 p.m. May 1 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center and 1:30 p.m. May 2 at Oahu's Turtle Bay Hilton, where Madness joins the fun.

The fest marks the return of No Doubt's covergirl vocalist Gwen Stefani, who has popularized bared navels, athlete stripes, bindis, eye jewelry, and, oh yeah, giddy perky girl singers.

Stefani's growl and squeak is at the front of No Doubt's sound, a mix of new wave, guitar-rock, ska, dance, reggae and pop.

The Vandals contribute punk riffs to the event, while Eugene, Oregon's Cherry Poppin' Daddies delivers danceable, energetic swing-core."

Tickets are $26.50 for the Maui show and $27.50 on Oahu. Buy them at the MACC box office, Hungry Ear stores, Radio Free Music Center, Tower Records Kahala and Pearl Kai, Tower Video, Pearl Harbor Bloch Arena, the Kaneohe MCBH ITT outlet and the Connection. Or charge at 545-4000 or 1-(800)-333-3388.
