Morikawa heads HMSA's p.r. efforts

The Hawaii Medical Service Association has chosen Allen Morikawa to supervise a team of 29 artists, writers, photographers, and public relations people.

HMSA publishes Island Scene magazine and does a variety of corporate and community projects.

"We outsource our television and radio advertising but do everything else in-house because it is more cost effective," Morikawa said. "We have targeted newsletters to physicians and employer groups. We also do workshops, health fairs, and go out to schools and community groups."

Morikawa has more than 20 years in communications and joined HMSA in 1985 as a graphic artist. He was promoted to supervisor of graphic artists in 1990 and became manager of the communications staff in 1993.

HMSA is a nonprofit association founded in 1938 to provide health care coverage.
