capture Pro-Pro golf titleThe Castillos shot a 67 for a 9-under par total of 135, three strokes ahead of runners-up Mark Chapleski and John Rieger of Ko Olina Golf Club, who finished at 67.
HONORS TO THREE HPU CAGERS: Guard Llewellyn Smalley of Hawaii Pacific repeated as a second-team selection, center J.J. Lucas was named to the third team and guard Shannon Lee received honorable mention on the NAIA All-America basketball team announced yesterday.
Smalley, a four-year letterman for the Sea Warriors, tied the school record for most games played in a career (123) and broke school records for most field goals made (661) and most 3-point goals made (240).
Lucas, also a senior, led HPU in scoring (19.3 points per game), rebounds (7.3 per game ) and blocked shots (68). Lee, a junior, ranked seventh nationally in assists per game (7.1) and had 83 steals, third best in a single season for the Sea Warriors.
SEA WARRIORS WIN IN NINTH: Lee Anzai singled with two outs in the ninth inning and scored from first on Kaina McCallum's double, giving Hawaii Pacific University an 8-7 baseball victory over Pacific Lutheran yesterday at Hans L'Orange Park.
McCallum also had a triple and delivered three runs for the Sea Warriors (10-9). Anzai had three hits and three RBIs.
CHUN WINS JUNIOR GOLF PRIZE: Darren Chun won the boys' 11-12 championship in a playoff with Casey Kobashigawa after both shot 1-under-par 59s yesterday in the Oahu Junior Golf Association Stroke Play Tournament at the Kalakaua course.
Jodi Ige shot a 7-over 67 for first place in the girls' 11-12 division while Bronson Maluenda took boys' 10-and-under honors with a 54 and Ashley Yamaguchi topped the girls' 10-and-under flight with a 61 on the shortened par 54 course for younger players.
SOFTBALL SWEEP FOR SEASIDERS: Stephanie Jones pitched five hitless innings and Kaui Fonoimoana completed a one-hitter as Brigham Young-Hawaii defeated Lewis-Clark (Ore.) State, 3-1, on the way to a sweep of their softball doubleheader yesterday at Laie.
The Seasiders won the second game, 4-0, as freshman Stephanie Winters blanked the visitors on three hits.
The sweep improved BYUH's season record to 6-19. Lewis-Clark slipped to 5-6.
NO-HITTER FOR VULCANS' VASQUEZ: Lori Vasquez hurled a seven-inning no-hitter to cap the University of Hawaii at Hilo's 9-1, 6-0 sweep of a softball doubleheader with Baker University yesterday at Carvalho Park in Hilo.
Leena Alcarez and Kristy Odamura homered for the Vulcans in support of Vasquez, who walked three and struck out nine.
