MINNEAPOLIS -- The ear-splitting roar at the final buzzer said it all: Minnesota is going back to a Final Four, even if it isn't the one most people will be watching next week. Minnesota, Penn State

reach NIT semifinalsWith hometown favorite Sam Jacobson pirouetting to the deciding layups in the final minute, the Golden Gophers beat Marquette, 73-71, in the National Invitation Tournament quarterfinals last night.
The victory touched off a raucous celebration from the crowd of 11,842, many of whom spilled onto the floor and mobbed coach Clem Haskins as he tried to do a postgame interview.
"I would challenge anyone who says that the NIT isn't exciting," Haskins said.
A senior, Jacobson had 16 of his 21 points in the second half, and added 11 rebounds and five assists as the Gophers (18-15) beat the Eagles (20-11).
Penn State 75, Georgia Tech 70: At Atlanta, Greg Grays scored 14 of his 18 points in the second half, including the tiebreaking 3-pointer, as the Nittany Lions (18-12) beat the Yellow Jackets (19-14).
Grays hit a 3-pointer with 6:36 remaining to give Penn State a 57-54 lead it would not relinquish.
Georgia Tech closed to 65-64 on a 3-pointer from Michael Maddox with 3:36 left. But Calvin Booth, who had 16 points, scored two straight baskets to give the Nittany Lions a 69-64 lead with 1:30 left in the game.
