


Tonight's exhibition women's volleyball match between the University of Hawaii and Brigham Young-Hawaii will feature a new scoring format that may take effect in 1999 and several rule changes that will be used this coming season. Hawaii, BYUH women
spikers tangle tonightThe match, which begins at 7 p.m. at Klum Gym, will be best 2-out-of-3 games using rally scoring. Games 1 and 2 will use a 14-minute clock, with time stopped at each dead ball.
This is the first meeting of the two teams since 1992, when the Seasiders upset the Wahine. BYU-Hawaii went undefeated (32-0) last season en route to its fourth consecutive NAIA title and eighth overall. Hawaii finished at 25-7.
Tickets are $5 general admission and $3 for students, and available at the door.
VOLLEYBOWS STAY NO. 4: The University of Hawaii men's volleyball team remained ranked No. 4 in both the AVCA Coaches and Volleyball magazine polls yesterday.
The Rainbows (15-4) are ranked behind Pepperdine, UCLA and Brigham Young. Hawaii hosts UCLA in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match Friday and a nonconference match on Saturday.
Both matches are at 7 p.m. The Rainbows and Bruins lead their respective divisions of the MPSF and Friday's match could determine the host site of the conference tournament in April.
RAINBOW BASKETBALL BANQUET: The annual University of Hawaii men's basketball banquet is scheduled for Wednesday, April 8, at the Outrigger Prince Kuhio Hotel.
No-host cocktails begin at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are $35.

WAHINE GOLFERS FIFTH: The University of Hawaii finished fifth out of 13 teams yesterday in the Bud Light/Cal State Northridge Women's Golf Classic at Lompoc, Calif.
Desiree Ting (85-81) and Katarina Forsberg (83-83) had 166 totals for a share of 12th place to lead the UH Wahine.
Nevada, paced by individual winner Angie Yoon with a 5-over-par 149, captured the team title with an aggregate of 655. Hawaii was 14 strokes off the pace.
UMPIRES IN DEMAND: The Mililani-Waipio Bobby Sox Softball League is in dire need of volunteer umpires and a corporate sponsor.
Anyone 16 years old and up may serve as a volunteer umpire. Experience is not necessary, "just a basic knowledge of the game, a desire to learn and the commitment to officiate a few games a month," according to the league's umpire in chief, Jerry DeGuzman.
The season is scheduled to start on March 31 and run through the first week in June.

MARINES TO HOST SWAMP ROMP: The fourth annual Swamp Romp, a five-mile run and obstacle course through Marine Corps Base Hawaii-Kaneohe, will be held on Saturday, April 4, starting at 7:30 a.m.
Six-member military and civilian teams are invited to run against the Marines and sailors of the Combat Service Support Group (CSSG-3) in the challenging event.
Entry fees are $72 per team for DoD I.D. cardholders and $90 for civilian teams. A $15 late fee will be charged for entries received after March 30.
