Nick Provenzano service Saturday;
had awaited liver transplant

By Star-Bulletin staff

Honolulu resident Nick Provenzano, who moved to Los Angeles in July to seek liver transplant surgery at University of California at Los Angeles Medical Center, died Feb. 22 in a Los Angeles hospital.

Provenzano, 44, a former real estate and automobile salesman, said in an interview last March that he had been given a year to live unless a transplant could be arranged to replace his damaged liver. He had been in deteriorating health since 1990 when he was diagnosed with hepatitis C.

His mother, Bertha Provenzano of Honolulu, said that after extensive tests, doctors determined that he would not be able to survive surgery. He had been hospitalized several times in recent months, she said.

A funeral Mass will be said at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Church. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Burial will be private.

The family requests that flowers be omitted.
