Russell Wong, who co-starred in the movie "The Joy Luck Club," will play the lead role in the ABC pilot "Honolulu CRU."

Wong last year filmed a "Hawaii Five-0" pilot here with Gary Busey; CBS did not pick up the show. He also has starred in "New Jack City" and "Eat a Bowl of Tea."

"Honolulu CRU" is based on the Honolulu Police Department's Crime Reduction Unit. It will be produced by Jordan Kerner and written by Mark Haskell-Smith.

The production has rented a sound stage at the Hawaii Film Studio on Diamond Head for six weeks beginning late this month.

Meanwhile, Ricardo Montalban said he has not been asked to appear in ABC's remake of "Fantasy Island," which will film a pilot and seven episodes in Hawaii this month. He was the series star in the original production.
