Providing financial alternatives

Rick Humphreys, former chairman and chief executive officer at Bank of America-Hawaii, is now in charge of the Hawaii regional office for Altres Financial, a limited partnership which specializes in lending to small and emerging companies.

The firm's name comes from the term "alternate resources." Humphreys said, "Most importantly, we help new and under-funded businesses maintain their relationship with the banks until they are more fully capitalized. This is especially true for businesses operating in a struggling economy like Hawaii is experiencing now."

Humphreys is one of five partners in Altres which is based in Salt Lake City.

He has 31 years in banking including 41/2 years with Bank of America and eight years with Bank of Hawaii.

Humphreys earned a bachelor's degree in business at Menlo College of Business Administration in Atherton, Calif.
