Attend conference on
lit, language

"Languages and Literature in the Age of Globalization," the second annual college-wide conference for students in the College of Languages, Linguistics and Literature will be held Saturday

Participants will be able to interact with students, faculty and members of the community; view several presentations including University of Hawaii's contributions to international research in various fields; and hear keynote speaker Dr. Peter Elbow, director of the Writing Center at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Elbow was also UH's English Department's Citizen Chair from 1995-96 and is the author of several books including "Writing Without Teachers" and "Writing With Power."

Elbow will be speaking on "Wrong Language: Mistakes, Bad English, Mother Tongue."

The conference begins with registration at 7:30 a.m. in Moore Hall on the University of Hawaii-Manoa, upper campus. ° Where to go after high school?: Chaminade University welcomes prospective students and their families to an open house, 2-5 p.m. Sunday. If you're undecided about which college to attend, now is the chance to tour the campus, meet with professors, learn about the type of majors being offered, listen to alumnus Frank DeLima, and have any questions answered. ° You could be the next supermodel: L.A. Looks is looking for a female U.S. legal resident between the ages of 12-24 to give a $100,000/2-year modeling contract to. The company will have a panel of experts at Ala Moana Mall's Center Stage from 10 a.m. to noon on March 21. They will be judging contestants on overall appearance and photogenic quality and style. The panelists will also give advice about breaking into modeling. Would-be models must bring a photo of themselves. At least one girl will be chosen as a semi-finalist and if she becomes one of the Top 10 finalists, she will be flown to Los Angeles in June for the final competition. Two runners-up will receive a $30,000/2-year modeling contract or $20,000/2-year modeling contract with L.A. Models.
