Report on a person's tsunami-related experience and you could win a trip for two to a neighbor island.

The Pacific Tsunami Museum Essay Contest is open to kids in grades 5 through 12 who live in Hawaii.

To enter, interview a relative, friend or neighbor about a tsunami-related experience. Maybe the tale is about surviving a tsunami. Or maybe it's about how a tsunami affected someone's life indirectly.

Write up the experience in an essay at least 300 words long. The essay may be written in either English or Hawaiian.

Send in two copies of the essay, typed or computer-printed in 12-point, double-spaced type, along with an official entry form which must be signed by the student, interviewee and the student's parent or guardian.

A photograph of the writer and the person interviewed must also be included.

Entries must be mailed, postmarked by April 20, to: Pacific Tsunami Museum, P.O. Box 806, Hilo, Hawaii 96721.

Winners will be notified by May 23. Prizes will also be awarded to second- through fifth-place winners.

For more information about the contest and to obtain an entry form, visit the Pacific Tsunami Museum office at 1221 Kilauea Ave., Hilo; visit the museum's website at http://www.planet-hawaii.com/tsunami or call (808) 935-0926.

If you need some inspiration, winning entries from the 1995 contest are on the Web site.
