Holding the line for BOMA

Jo Ann Mau leads the Building Owners and Managers Association as it tackles such complex issues as liability for telecommunication lines inside buildings.

GTE Hawaiian Tel wants to turn over responsibility of these lines to the buildings, following a Federal Communications Commission national directive. The state Public Utilities Commission "wants to let the parties work out something together," Mau said. A group of utility and building representatives met in December and will meet again in May.

Mau has 13 years in property management and currently works for Graham Murata Russell. She also was a commercial property manager for Hyatt, Hemmeter Commercial Properties and Hawaii Management Corp.

She earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Hawaii. The Hawaii BOMA chapter has 170 members.
