McAneeley
has Olympic high

HAWAII Prince Manager Ted McAneeley, a former National Hockey League player, is back from what he calls a great experience at the Olympics, where he was adviser to NHL President Gary Betman and Player's Association head Bob Goodenow. "There were triumphs and disappointments, but that's competition isn't it?" Ted said. McAneeley helped coordinate the Maui visit of the winning American women's hockey team and expects a few of them to visit his Waikiki Prince Hotel. Ted played for Edmonton just before superstar Wayne Gretzky joined the team. He had dinner with Wayne and his wife, Janet, twice in Nagano. He said it was unfortunate the entire U.S. team was tainted by the hotel-room trashing by just two or three players after the Americans lost to the gold-medal winning Czechs ...

I DIDN'T know Coldwell Banker mainstay and former Pickle Barrel eatery owner Chris Friese was elected a Roosevelt High cheerleader in the wild and crazy '60s. That was quite a feat for a Berlin teen-ager. Her family arrived in Hawaii with $45, looking for opportunity, and found it. Chris was a popular member of the swimming team. Her husband, Honolulu Magazine publisher John Alves, was a Waianae High drama teacher in earlier years ...

KAANAPALI resort hands rode into town Thursday to hold a roundup at Roy's, with Western sheriff's badges and cowboy paraphernalia for guests. Linda Coble grabbed a pair of handcuffs and said, "I'm taking these babies home." Husband Kirk Matthews was smiling.
