Raymond Miyahira joins the Hawaii regional operations of Diebold Inc., a company that develops card-based transaction systems. Engineering more versatile ATMs
He will provide engineering support for the company's automated teller machine products and other services.
The Hawaii region for Diebold includes Guam, Saipan, and Tinian.
"The big push here is to grow the ATM business," Miyahira said.
"Smart cards" are also used on university campuses for security in dormitories, and food services. Hospitals use ATMs for issuing prescriptions, he said.
Miyahira worked on software and hardware systems for 32 years at NCR Corp.
He spent 10 years in Japan where he graduated from high school and attended Sophia University.
He also attended the University of Hawaii.
