FLOWERS HIAC PLAYER OF WEEK: Hawaii Pacific's Willie Howard, who had 23 points and 10 rebounds in the Sea Warriors' 85-73 victory over BYUH, hitting 10 of 15 shots from the floor, was named Player of the Week yesterday by the Hawaii Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
OUTRIGGER GRANTS: The Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation has made the following grant awards for the second quarter of 1998.
The grants are:
$1,000 to the Hawaiian Island Twisters of Kaneohe, a gymnastics organization.
$1,000 to the Cline Mann Paddleboard Race, named after the late Hawaiian waterman, John Cline Mann and scheduled for August.
$5,000 to the annual July 4th Macfarlane Regatta in Waikiki, the island's premier summer canoe regatta.

TOP POOL PROS ON MAUI: Johnny Archer and Kim Davenport are among the top names in professional pool scheduled to play in the Maui Cue Classic, sanctioned by the National Nine Ball Tour, from Saturday through Tuesday, March 3, in Kahului.
Archer is the reigning World Pool/Billiard Association 9-Ball champion.
Others expected to compete include Michael Coltrain, youngest player on the pro circuit, Sal Butera and four pro women -- Jennifer Chen, Aileen Pippin, Jan McWorther and Helena Thornfelt.
The tournament is open to all and a field of up to 100 is expected. Entry fee is $40 and entry deadline is noon, Feb. 28.
FOX TROT FOR PARTY ANIMALS: The Honolulu Zoo's Fox Trot, a fund-raising fun run on three easy courses around the outside of the zoo and Kapiolani Park, will take off at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 22.
Entrants will receive a Fox Trot T-shirt and free admission to the zoo for a postrace party. They are encouraged to wear their wildest zoo attire and qualify for a "best costume" prize. There also will be prizes for the top finishers -- men, women, children, wheelchair racers -- on the long (three-mile) course and for the top 10 keiki finishers on all three courses. Entry fees, per person, are $18 for adults, $16 for keiki (12 and under), $15 for families (three of more persons) and $13 for groups (10 or more).
PADDLEBOARD MARATHON: The second annual Molokai-to-Oahu Paddleboard Race will begin at 8 a.m., Sunday, August 2, at the Sheraton Kalua Koi and finish at the Mauanalua Bay Beach Park bath house.
There will be competition in five divisions--team women, team men, senior team (combined age 80), solo men and solo women.
