Two new books from the American Heart Association can help anyone trying to follow a heart-healthier diet. Books help you lower dietary fat
"365 Ways to Get Out the Fat" (paperback, Times Books, $4.99), is a guidebook of tips to lower consumption of fat and cholesterol. You don't have to sit down and read the whole thing, just dip into one of the six sections of the book and pick up a quick tip or two at a time.
"Low-Fat, Low-Cholesterol Cookbook, Second Edition" (Times Books, $25), presents over 200 creative recipes for heart-healthy dishes. Pork with corn-cilantro pesto, peppery beef with blue cheese sauce, crab spring rolls with peanut dipping sauce, chocolate custard cake with raspberries, these and more sound like indulgences, not everyday fare.
For more information on these books, call the AHA, 538-7021 on Oahu. Neighbor island residents can call local AHA offices on Maui, Kauai and the Kona and Hilo coasts of the Big Island.
