for soccerThe other seeded teams are: Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion Iolani, at No. 2; Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion Konawaena, at No. 3, and Maui Interscholastic League champion Baldwin, at No. 4.
Games begin Wednesday at two sites. At Radford, Hawaii Preparatory Academy plays Castle at 5:30 p.m., followed by Punahou and Kailua at 7:30. At Moanalua, Kaiser plays Seabury Hall at 5:30, followed by Kapaa and Aiea at 7:30.
The games shift to Aloha Stadium Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
WAHINE TAKE TWO: Melissa McGie scored in both games as the University of Hawaii softball team won twice at the UNLV Softball Classic yesterday in Las Vegas, Nev.
McGie singled and eventually scored on a error in a three-run first inning as Hawaii went on to beat Utah State, 4-1, in the opening game behind the five-hit pitching of Janelle Gonzales (4-0).
In the second game, McGie reached first on an error and later scored on another error as the Wahine put together three fifth-inning runs to beat Bowling Green, 6-3.
Hawaii improved to 7-2 on the season.
VOLLEYBOWS ON ROAD: The fourth-ranked University of Hawaii men's volleyball team opens a four-match road trip tonight, trying to hold onto to first place in the Pacific Division of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
The Rainbows (9-2, 6-1) are a half-game ahead of defending NCAA champion Stanford after the Cardinal (7-2, 6-2) lost conference matches at home to Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount over the weekend.
Hawaii takes on San Diego State (2-5, 2-5) in 5 p.m. HST matches today and tomorrow. Thursday, the Rainbows are at UC San Diego (1-9, 0-8) for a 3 p.m. HST match and have a rematch with the Tritons Friday at 5 p.m. HST.
Only the San Diego State matches will be carried on radio by KCCN-1420 AM.
"We're facing two teams that haven't won much," said Rainbow coach Mike Wilton, "but we could easily make them look good, especially if we played like we did on our last road trip."
Hawaii has won all five of its road matches so far this year but struggled in the last three.
RAINBOW BASKETBALL BANQUET: The annual University of Hawaii men's basketball banquet is scheduled for Wednesday, April 8, at the Outrigger Prince Kuhio Hotel.
No-host cocktails begin at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are $35.
