SOFTBALL SHUTOUT FOR UH'S DURAN: Left-hander Desiree Duran held Simon Fraser to four singles and the host University of Hawaii softball team pushed across two unearned runs in the third inning for a 2-0 victory yesterday in the opening game of the Hawaii Paradise Classic.
Tia Morenz and Joyce Lum each had two hits for the 5-0 Wahine.
STATE BOXING TONIGHT: Top amateur boxers will compete in the 1998 Hawaii State Boxing Championship tonight and tomorrow night at Fort Shafter Gym.
The action starts at 7 each night.
Winners advance to the U.S. Boxing Championships at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., next month.
Waianae's Mike Keopuhiwa and Cheyenne Padeker and Maui's Michael Laureano are expected to defend their state titles.
