
Klaneski UHs most valuable
Star-Bulletin StaffUniversity of Hawaii senior Eddie Klaneski was named the team's most valuable player at last night's banquet held at the Stan Sheriff Center. Klaneski led the defense in tackles with 128 and set a team record in pass breakups with 13. He had two interceptions as well.
The senior free safety also returned 34 punts for 359 yards.
Fellow safety Chris Shinnick was given the Ben Yee Most Inspirational Player award. The second-year transfer from Los Angeles Valley College finished second on the squad in total tackles with 126. He had one quarterback sack, seven pass breakups, one caused fumble, one interception and one fumble recovery for a touchdown.
The four-year lettermen: Klaneski, Brian Chapman, Al Hunter, Shane Oliveira, Tyler Tanigawa, Gary Ellison, Ellie Kapihe, Johnny Macon and Conrad Paulo.
The captain's awards went to Oliveira (offense), Klaneski (defense) and Chad Shrout (special teams). The Warrior Club honors went to Macon (offense), Doug Rosevold (defense) and Tanigawa (special teams).
The scout team awards were given to Fred Lau (offense) and Jay Amina (defense). The Rainbows wound up with 60 lettermen from the 1997 team that finished the season 3-9.
