Tihati princess, ex-gridder wed

MORE than 450 people attended the wedding reception of Misty Thompson and Albert Tufono at the Kahala Mandarin last Saturday. The bride's parents are Jack and Cha Thompson, who own Tihati Productions. Karen Keawehawaii, besides singing, was "collecting kisses" from Kimo Kahoano and others. Connie Kissinger sang "Unforgettable," backed by the Clyde Pound band as Daddy Jack and Misty danced. Albert tried to cut in, and he and Jack had a mock struggle. Misty danced hula as Sam Bernard sang. Kapena, Loyal Garner and the S.F.I. Trio also performed. Jack and Cha are Farrington grads. Besides Karen, other Farrington stars attending were Gov. Ben Cayetano, who is in Cha's family tree; former Police Chief Michael Nakamura, and Nephi Hannemann, who arrived with his brother, Councilman Mufi Hannemann. Iolani's Eddie Hamada was at the head table. The groom, a former U. of Washington gridder, and most of his attendants played football at Iolani. Emcee was Joe Recca, who sang with J. Haalilo Heyer at the wedding at Kamehameha, alma mater of the bride. The Society of Seven's Gary Bautista and S.F.I. with Misty's brother, Afatia Thompson, also sang at the wedding ...

A vocal jubilee

A HONOLULU Symphony twin bill featuring the Albert McNeil Jubilee Singers and pianist Lorin Hollander in a Gershwin Jubilee was a rousing success at the Concert Hall Sunday. The McNeil singers are not only excellent harmonizers and soloists, they present musical theater as well. Their expressions and movements enhance their songs. The McNeil group will perform spirituals, gospel, calypso and a tribute to Harry Belafonte tomorrow at the Hawaii Theatre, 2 p.m. From what I saw Sunday, this is bound to be super good ...

TONIGHT is the last night to catch pianist Dave Brubeck and sons in a Honolulu Symphony Pops Concert at the Concert Hall, 7:30. Due to neck and back trouble stemming from a bad 1951 swimming accident in Waikiki, Brubeck was slouched in his chair Tuesday night during an interview with Hawaii Public Radio's Seth Markow. But he bolted upright when Seth surprised him with a recording of Cleo Brown, one of his early inspirations. "I don't believe it," Dave said. "I haven't heard her for years!" Seth's jazz show, "The Real Deal," plays Monday through Thursday from 8 to 10 p.m. on KIPO 89.3 FM. As for Brubeck's old injury, he said Thursday that as the ambulance was driving him to Tripler, he heard the driver say he was bringing in a DOA (dead on arrival) ...

THE Rolling Stones will have Aloha Stadium rocking Friday and Saturday nights ... Cirque Eloize, the Canadian "circus without animals," plays Wednesday through Sunday at the Hawaii Theatre ... Ciao Mein in the Hyatt presents a special menu and lion dancing Jan. 28 for Chinese New Year ...

Cazimero and Moonshine

ROBERT CAZIMERO'S mellow vocals charmed a packed house at Kahala Moon's full moon fest Monday night. Mahi Beamer took a turn at the piano and he and Robert sang a birthday wish to Moon owner Kelvin Ro. Among the guests were Rep. Neil Abercrombie and wife, Nancie Caraway, celebrating with Maxine Robson, their Realtor, the purchase of their first house. Neil and Nancie met in 1976 at a Cazimero Brothers performance. Laurie Breeden Callies celebrated her birthday with husband Dave Callies and Cazimero's vocals. "Uncle" Keola Beamer and Maka Kaaihue, kumu hula Vicky Holt Takamine, Easter Seal's Billie Gabriel, Hapa's Barry Flanagan and Na Leo Pilimehana's Lehua Kalima were there ...
