The Marine Corps Base Hawaii Environmental Department is conducting a controlled burn this week to make the habitat safer for the red-footed booby birds. About 10 acres will be burned on Ulupa'u Crater. The main target of the burn is the scrub grass, which presents a brush-fire threat to the bird colony.
