Hannibal Tavares
services Friday

Former Maui Mayor Hannibal M. Tavares will be remembered in services Friday. Tavares, of Kula, died Saturday at age 78 in Maui Memorial Hospital.

Memorial services over the ashes are scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon in St. Anthony’s Church. Mass will follow. Inurnment will be private. Aloha attire. No flowers.

Tavares was born in Makawao, Maui. He is survived by wife Harriet Y.T.; daughters Charmaine Tavares and Sharon Klaschka; son Gary; sisters Helen Medeiros, Margaret Roberts and Sophie Stone, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.



Ricardo D. Agustin, 77, of Waipahu died Jan. 8 in St. Francis-West Hospital. He was born in the Philippines. He is survived by wife Flora B.; sons Sergio B., Nestor B. and Henry B.; daughters Eulalia A. Corpuz and Henedina A. Goze, and 10 grandchildren. Louis Augustine, 81, of Kailua died Monday. He was born in Pennsylvania. Josephine C. “Jo-Jo” Cabacungan, 65, of Wailuku died Saturday at home. She was born in Waiehu, Maui. She is survived by husband Regino; sons Lyle and Ivan; daughters Kathy, Joni and Holly; sisters Adelhied Hights and Eleanor Ah Sau, and eight grandchildren. Josue B. “Joe” Cadiz, 65, of Wailua, Kauai, an engineer for Kauai Surf and the Westin Hotels, died Jan. 13. He was born in the Philippines. Heu See Ching, 89, of Kaneohe, also known as Mrs. Ah Kui Ching, died Jan. 13 in Honolulu. She was born in China. She is survived by sons George, Harry and Clarence; daughters Mabel Wortley, Harriet Ching and Thelma Palmer; sisters Yau Choi, Yau Kam, Yau Soi Kui and Yau Yean Tai, 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Virginia P. Dias, 90, of Honolulu died Saturday. She was born in Honokaa, Hawaii. She is survived by son Gerald, daughter Eleanor Nobriga, seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
