As the new cultural adviser for Aloha Tower Marketplace, Iwalani Tseu wants to make the waterfront landmark a place for continuous multi-cultural celebrations. Aloha Tower hires cultural adviser
These events will include singers, dancers, martial arts performances, a ukulele festival, a hula hoop competition and a Hawaiian-style Easter bonnet parade. Tseu said they are for "kamaaina and malihini and to share the true aloha spirit with all who visit this international landmark."
"I want to make Aloha Tower a living museum of music, dance and exhibitions," Tseu said.
Tseu arranged some events last year, including the 850 Hawaiian hula dancers who performed at the 71st birthday celebration for Aloha Tower on Sept. 21.
As a teenager, she was one of the hula dancers who greeted the ocean liners during the "Boat Days". Tseu operates the Iwalani School of Dance in Mililani. She teaches ancient and modern hula and the ethnic dances of the Middle East, South Pacific, Orient and South America.
