Wahine just miss top-25 ranking
By Al Chase
Star-BulletinThe University of Hawaii women's basketball team arrived in Honolulu late last night to discover its two victories in Texas weren't quite enough for it to crack The Associated Press women's top 25 poll. The Wahine were No. 26 after receiving 70 points. They were No. 28 a week ago.
No. 25 Stephen F. Austin received 86 points.
"We were 12-1 and went on the road and beat 12-3 (Southern Methodist) and 11-4 (Texas Christian) teams at their places and that's good enough," UH head coach Vince Goo said.
"I think people were waiting to see if we could win on the road and we did. I think we'll be in the top 25 in the USA Today poll.
"I think our players proved on the road that they belong, but our concern is just to keep winning."
UH continues Western Athletic Conference play Thursday against Rice and Saturday against Tulsa at the Stan Sheriff Center.
