Stephen F.P. Boyle is leaving his post at the New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel to open Boyle Marketing, a sales, marketing and public relations consulting firm, in Waimea on the Big Island, next month. Boyle leaves New Otani to open firm
"With my background in destination marketing, the idea of being instrumental in Big Island tourist development is very appealing," Boyle said.
For the past 15 years, Boyle has been vice president and general manager of the New Otani in Waikiki. He also was regional marketing director for the Pacific division of Inter-Continental Hotels. Boyle worked seven years in sales for Sabena Belgium World Airlines and came to Hawaii in 1968.
He co-founded the Wailea Destination Association on Maui in the early 1980s and founded the Diamond Head Climbers Hui to bring attention to the landmark's litter problem.
Last year he won the distinguished service award from the University of Hawaii's School of Travel Industry Management for promoting Hawaiian culture, the boutique-hotel concept and ecotourism.
