Outrigger hires former Hawaiian Air executive
Peter Jenkins, who had been senior vice president of sales at Hawaiian Airlines Inc., has joined Outrigger Hotels & Resorts as vice president of sales and market development.Jenkins will oversee the hotel chain's domestic and international sales activities, direct its worldwide sales force, and be involved in Outrigger's expansion plans, said Rob Solomon, Outrigger senior vice president of sales and marketing.
Jenkins was paid $180,000 a year in the Hawaiian Airlines post. Outrigger said it does not disclose its executives' salaries.
Jenkins joined Hawaiian in May 1994 after seven years with ITT Sheraton Hotels in Hawaii as director of communications. Before Sheraton, Jenkins had held airline marketing posts. He left Hawaiian in December and was replaced by John B. Happ, a former Continental Airlines executive.
Fed court reinstates Keating's conviction
SAN FRANCISCO - Charles Keating, the symbol of the 1980s savings and loan scandal, could return to prison after a federal appeals court reinstated his state securities fraud convictions for fleecing thousands of investors.Prosecutors were contacting prison officials to arrange Keating's return to custody after the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals threw out Keating's appeal on procedural grounds yesterday.
Keating's savings and loan was accused of defrauding thousands of Lincoln Savings investors who bought high-risk junk bonds. He was convicted in both state and federal courts and served four years in prison, but both convictions were overturned.
Seagate Tech plans to cut 10,000 workers
SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. - Seagate Technology Inc., a computer disk drive maker, said it is cutting 10,000 jobs, mostly in Asia, in a struggle against competition.The 10 percent reduction in Seagate's 100,000-person work force, including 1,350 U.S. jobs, comes after two quarters of falling sales amid a worldwide glut that has driven down prices of the company's products. Seagate, based in Scotts Valley, Calif., is closing two Southern California design centers, in San Jose and Moorpark, and consolidating their operations with offices in Longmont, Colo., and Oklahoma City.
