Takeya in charge of Hawaii Realtors

Yukio Takeya takes over as the 30th president of the Hawaii Association of Realtors with a goal to bring more information on new technology to the association's 5,500 members.

"We have e-mail and and all the new technology now but unless you go to a trade show most of our members are not exposed to it," Takeya said. "We will have this high-tech information at our next state convention in September on Kauai."

He is president and principal broker of Ala Kai Realty Inc. and Ala Kai Development Co. on the Big Island.

Takeya has served as president of the Hawaii Island Board of Realtors and was named the island's Realtor of the Year in 1989. He has 26 years of work with the professional organization.

He is past president of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry and also has led other organizations, including Destination Hilo, which promotes the Big Island's east side and the Main Street program in Hilo.
