Matsumoto leads property owners' group

Eric M. Matsumoto leads the Hawaii chapter of the Community Associations Institute as it tries to get more homeowners involved in the group's seminars.

Matsumoto said that homeowner association directors need to get information first hand, rather than from property managers. The Hawaii chapter has nine or 10 educational seminars each year.

"Our first one this year is on Jan. 31 at the Hale Koa Hotel," he said. "It's on the duties of board members."

The Community Association Institute, in its 25th anniversary this year, is an educational and lobbying organization that brings together homeowners and professionals from various community groups.

Matsumoto has been president of the Mililani Town Association for 16 years. He has worked for 28 years at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyards and is a supervisor for the engineering and assessment branch of the quality assurance department. The unit watches over procedures used for ship repairs.
