Jhoel Mallana will find it easier to make his annual trip to see family in the Philippines this month.

Thanks to the luck of the draw, Mallana, a restaurant cook in Kapolei, won $5,000 as the Football Fever grand-prize winner.

"It's very good to have after Christmas," said the 28-year-old Waipahu resident, who moved here from Bataan five years ago. "I have been entering every week since 1996."

The first-prize winner is John Clemente, a 33-year-old Pearl City resident. He earns a trip for two to the 52nd Hooters Hula Bowl All-Star Football Classic on Jan. 18. The prize includes two round-trip airline tickets, accommodations at the teams' official hotel and VIP game tickets.

"I usually go every year to the Hula Bowl, but since it moved to Maui, I told my wife (Teresa) we may not go this time," Clemente said. "Now this is great because we can go."
