A 19-year-old prison inmate, arrested 10 days ago for questioning in connection with the shooting death of Larry Red Eagle, is a suspect in a second homicide that also occurred in August. Police yesterday booked the suspect, who is being held at the Oahu Community Correctional Center on charges unrelated to the two homicides, for second-degree murder related to a shooting on Tantalus Drive.
Chi Kai Pan, 19, was shot in the head shortly before 11 p.m. Aug. 16 on Tantalus Drive.
That shooting occurred 10 days after Lah Hah-Bate-Soot, also known as Red Eagle, a 25-year-old Puyallup Indian from Washington, was killed and dumped on Waipio Point Access Road in Waipahu.
The suspect, arrested yesterday at 1:20 p.m., was also booked for hindering prosecution and firearm offenses in the Pan case.
He is being held at the main police station cellblock pending charges.
Homicide Lt. Allen Napoleon said the two victims may not have been acquainted. He declined comment, however, on what led investigators to connect the suspect to both homicides.
James L.W. Kane, 21, was indicted last week for second-degree murder in the Red Eagle case after being arrested Tuesday in Waipahu.
