A new approach to training

Tun-Hao "T.H." Ong takes a new position at BHP Hawaii to provide recruitment, training and organizational development for employees.

"Employability is a shared ownership idea," Ong said. "The company and the individual both have responsibility to make them employable. It's different than training and development by the company."

For the past two years he served as the marketing director for the Asia Pacific for Interaction Associates, a training and consulting firm in San Francisco.

From 1993-95, he was human resources director for PepsiCo. Restaurants International Asia, based in Hong Kong. Ong also worked for Dow Chemical, GE Medical Systems and Hitachi in Hong Kong and Japan.

He has a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering and a master's in business administration from the University of Washington.
